The DR According to P

A friend of ours gave each of my children a journal for our trip to the Dominican Republic. K used hers to draw a couple of colorful pictures--but she ultimately decided she would rather explore.

R sketched a few things in his during one of his quiet times, but he is my busy boy--he'd rather play than reflect.

P, my lover of all things related to books, absolutely loved his journal. He carried it with him everywhere the first few days--until he had filled every page.

It started with my request that he have a quiet time like the big kids and write or draw something about God. or write something about the D. R."In the DR they have a church and they sing in Spanish too."
"You DO NOT shop in a house. It looks like this."
"There is a lot of bugs in the DR. Ants and bees and some trees: Bugs are dead."

I had the best time flipping through it each day to see what he had added. It was quite a glimpse into his little heart and what he was learning from our trip. "People in the DR are very poor. We have a pool at our hotel. It has no water in it. You can only drink your own water or you will die. Please pray for the DR."
"Your secret code is pray. Your secret password is help. PRAY and HELP."

I couldn't help but marvel at his reflective little spirit and the things that he found noteworthy."They do not have a Wii or DSi in the DR."

He is planning to take the journal to school tomorrow for Show and Tell, so this afternoon I snapped pictures of my favorite pages just in case something happens to that journal at school. I don't ever want to forget this glimpse into my little man's tender heart.

That is priceless--what a precious outpouring of a little heart, tender and full of love for his Savior, as well as his fellow men. That must be preserved! Beautiful!!

That's just precious. :)That journal is definitely a keeper. I especially love how he has the patience to write out the whole verse from Galatians. That's one of the first few verses I learnt to recite from memory apart from John 3:16.
