A 5 Year Old's Apology

Late this afternoon, my children were playing outside as I prepared dinner. One of my precious ones came in the back door and said (meekly and all in one breath), "Mom, I just did something I shouldn't have and want to say I am sorry before you get mad. My brain just went crazy and I forgot how to have self control so now I am saying I am really, really sorry."

I believed it was sincere and the precious big brown eyes melted me...until I found out what the little one had done. It involved poop.

It is such an interesting line to walk...reinforcing honesty rather than 'cover ups' while also setting appropriate boundaries for behavior.

Motherhood is not for wimps.

Oh My! Can't wait to hear about this one! I understand and know what you mean. Honesty is more important than whatever lesson you want to teach for sure! After all...it is harder not to lie as an adult than cover up poop. Our job...we train our kids to grow into responsible and respectable adults...right? They won't continue the poop pranks...they will need to tell the truth always though! Reinforce the good behavior for sure!

Now you have me dying to find out what this appology and poop have in common.
