I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I am actively working to help the children become more involved in prayer. Specifically, I have been transitioning them from me saying their prayers, to them each talking to God themselves. R, especially, has been a bit resistant to this change.
Tonight when I announced to R that it was time for his prayers, he asked me to say them for him. I encouraged him and told him that God wanted to hear his voice. He agreed, then said the following in his deep, gravelly little voice:
"De-ya God, ummm, tomorrow night, please make my Mommy pway for me. In Jee-sus name I pway, Amen."
He opened his eyes, looked me squarely in the face and sweetly said, "Did you hear dat? Tomorrow God is gonna make you pway."

The girls are resisting this also and I'm not sure what to do! If they do pray it's goofy stuff and it turns into a joke. Any ideas?
Oh, my gosh...that is so funny! I've been following your blog and your story. I enjoy hearing you talk about your children, and I am blessed by the way you share God's great role in your life.
Good luck with fostering the prayers. Any time we help our children grow in independence it's a learning experience for us, too.
You've got one smart little guy there. That's adorable!
I've been avidly taking in your posts on meaningful activities with the kids to help them know Jesus. Wanted to pass along something I just found. I was in a nearby Christian bookstore in our area, Mardel, and found a preschool devotional book called Little Blessings. Actually, there were two under the LB title. One also says it covers the Bible in one year. We love it!! It has a small devotional, shares a bible verse that correlates directly to that devotional, and has a 2-3 sentence prayer. Some mornings we've done it before we leave for preschool and some mornings we do it in the car while at a stop sign or red light. It actually has stuck with me more during the day than my adult devotionals. The other day was about stars...and that we are to be shining stars for Jesus. Several events that day didn't go how I envisioned...and before I knew it, I was stopping myself from certain behaviors by remembering to be a shining star for Jesus! Thought I'd pass it along....

I read your blog a lot, but don't ever comment. I have 2 girls ages, 3.5 and almost 5. My husband started bed time with the oldest when the youngest was to young. He began by teaching her The Lord's prayer, which she recited every night, then he began asking her who she would like to "Bless". At first he would give her hints like "Nana, Papo, Uncle so and so.... after a few times she was able to add them on her own. The youngest picked it right up and now we all say The Lord's Prayer together and then each girl has a chance to say who they want to bless and/or what they are thankful for from the day. If they aren't really in the mood we ask they say at least 1 thing they are thankful for and then Dad or I finish.
Hilarious!
That one is a THINKER!!!
Thank you for your reassuring words. My oldest child is 4 1/2. He has been growing in his faith since he was 2 and has substantial scripture memory and Biblical knowledge, but never wants to pray (unless it's reciting). I hear all my friends talk about the prayers their kids say- girls especially- and wonder what I'm doing wrong. Your kids, too have had some great spiritual insights and questions. It has really helped me to hear that this is normal in other Christian homes. I know my doubts are not from God- thanks for being the voice I needed to hear! I'll keep praying out loud and treasure the time together :)
heehee ! I love it. Love his faith! :)
Oh how funny! We have been encouraging our little one to pray on her own as well...especially at dinner So far she's done well with branching out of her comfort zone. Last night as she was blessing our food she finished and then quickly added "And God, please let this food taste good too!"
I love the honesty of their little hearts!
Sooooooo cute!!!
