My P can be a tough nut to crack. He is bright, creative and frequently lost in his own head--an introvert who prefers escaping into a book or an imaginary game to any other activity.
His tender soul, however, is quite evident in the way he treats animals (real and stuffed). They all have names and stories at our house.
Tucking him in at night is our time. In the dark, free from other distractions, he opens up to me in a precious, endearing way. In the quiet moonlight he talks to me about what is on his mind. He asks questions. He gives me glimpses of his heart.
Tonight as he was chatting with his Daddy & me, I said, "You are going to make a great husband one day, buddy."
He wrapped his sweet arms around me and pulled me close to his damp, post-bath head.
"I just hope I have a wife as good as you."
Best. compliment. of. my. year.
My husband chuckled and said, "If you talk to your wife like that you won't have any trouble, son."
Is it any wonder little boys melt their Mamas' hearts?
This makes me smile -- my daughter has recently started asking me, "Who am I going to marry? You took the best one!" Love it!

Precious words. I'll bet his dad is that kind of husband!
ReplyDeleteBest compliment ever! I am so glad you are documenting these precious words from your little people, and they will be glad too.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteI have tears...that is precious! I don't have any little men, so I love hearing these stories :)
ReplyDeleteReminds me of when our son was four (he's 21 now) and told me he would be too embarrassed to ask anyone on a date. I told him if he still felt that way when it was time to go to his senior prom, that I would go with him, and he said "Do you promise?" It's a moment I won't ever forget. Boys steal their mother's hearts!
