Everyone dressed in period costumes as they learned about cotton,
"churned" butter,
sang songs,
sack raced, 
shot marbles,
pinned tails on possums,
and enjoyed a lively game of red rover. 
Picnic lunches served in pails were enjoyed under sunny skies and with good friends.
A mighty fine history lesson indeed!

Oh my word, it's a scene straight out of "Little House on the Prairie"! Adorable. Hands on experiences- one of the best ways to do education.
ReplyDeleteWe have rented old episodes of LH and they enjoyed it. Last year their teacher read it aloud during rest time.

ReplyDeleteOH, I used to work at a camp where we taught a class about how the "old days" were lived. We made butter, too.
